He is also one of the ten best eventing sires in the world. Balou du Rouet owes this record, set for two years and therefore unique in the world, to the large number of successful offspring he has produced, led by the individual World Championship and European Championship bronze medallist as well as World Cup ninth placed show-jumper Bianca/Steve Guerdat/SUI and the European Championship gold medallist and individual ninth placed eventer Billy the Red/Kristina Cook/GBR. Further guarantors of success are: Saura de Fondcombe/Nadja Peter Steiner/SUI, European Championship team bronze winner, Brilliant du Rouet/Liubov Kochetova/RUS, World Championship participant, Babalou/Darragh Kenny/IRL, placed fourth in Aachen as well as Balou Rubin R/Pius Schwizer/SUI, Balance/Toni Haßmann and Baloubet/Mario Stevens etc. For the athletes registered in Germany alone, the total prize money won is above 3.8 million euros.

Braveheart’s dam, the imported premium mare Calvyra Z, was by the stallion Calvaro Z. Calvaro’s sire Caletto I, is famous for producing showjumpers. His mother Deka by Consul made breeding history as mother of five approved sons. Caletto I was one of the most successful horses in showjumping. Calvaro’s dam Rixa, is a daughter of one of the most famous stallions, Capitol I. He produced Grand Prix jumpers and approved stallions like, Carthago Z., Cento, Cassini I, Capriol, Indoctro, Cumano etc. In Calvaro’s dam lineage there is the influential Farnese son Fantus to a Hanoverian female line that carries the blood of Sesam II and Goldfisch II, one of the most influential bloodlines in Hannover.

The great damsire of Braveheart, is the well-known stallion Ramiro Z, who in a lifespan of thirty years as a sporthorse and breeding sire earned the titles ‘Stallion of the Century’ and “King of Sires.”  His progeny can be described with one word: sublime. One of his daughters, the super-mare Ratina Z, is the dream of the show jumping world, winning double Olympic gold medals (1992 and 1996) at the Barcelona Olympics, and the World Cup of 1993. Ramiro still ranks number 16 on the 2003 World Breeding Federation jumping stallion rankings. He is arguably the most influential jumping stallion ever…

Calvyra Z is also the dam of Rivendell Sirandipity, Rivendell Numerology, Rivendell Champagne, Rivendell Cilantro and Rivendell Lamborghini.

Debina’s dam is the South African bred mare Chabal’s Destiny, who in 2018 was the SA 1.40m champion before taking a gap year. Destiny is by the imported stallion Udokes, who competed in the open grades under Lorette Knowles-Taylor. Udokes is by the Dutch stallion Corland, who was a son of Cor de la Bryere and one of the most successful breeding stallions of the past decennia. He jumped successfully at the highest level ridden by Wout-Jan van der Schans.

Corland was bred from two of the most influential sires in global jumper breeding: the French stallion Cor de la Bryere and the Holstein stallion Landgraf 1. Born in 1989, the grey was bred by German breeder Dr. Hartwig Schmidt. He descends from the famous Holstein dam-line 104a. Wiepke van de Lageweg of VDL Stud imported Corland to the Netherlands. Here he had lots of influence in breeding.

In sports, the stallion had great successes with Wout-Jan van der Schans. Most memorable were the European Championships in Arnhem in 2001. After the first two rounds, Corland and Van der Schans were first on the leaderboard and the favorites for the final. But luck was not on their side, and the pair finished on a very respectable ninth place in the individual ranking. With the Dutch team he got fourth. Corland was also second in the Sires of the World competition in Lanaken once, they got a seventh in the World Cup of Verona, won the Championship of the Benelux in The Hague and had many more top finishes in Grands Prix.

Corland was an absolute top breeding sire. He therefore received the keur-predicate from KWPN. He has five approved sons. Apardi, Bacardi VDL, Pacific, Silverstar and Sir Corland. Often we see his name as dam sire, like in the pedigree of the stallions Entertainer (s.Warrant), Insider VDL (s.Etoulon VDL), Wizzerd WV (s.Indoctro), Golddigger (s.Querly Elvis), Vermont (s.Carolus II) and Hampton VDL (s.Baltic VDL).
