Rivendell Maui

Pedigree profile of Rivendell Maui

D.O.B. 01/12/2020 – Quality Time (Imp) x Metternich x Graf Grannus

Maui is the last foal out of imported State premium mare Maigirl, owned by Stafford Robinson.  She will be retained for breeding purposes.  Maigirl produced several great foals including Berghof Eragon and Rivendell Bordeaux.  Maigirl is by the stallion Metternich, probably the best son of Matcho AA.  He was bred out of a very consolidated dam line and shaped by his refining ancestors. Metternich was a particularly versatile horse and so are most of his offspring. He was clearly stamped by his Thoroughbred ancestors, with a powerful and compact conformation, very much like Pik Konig in type, presence and ability. He had an excellent shoulder and hindquarters. Like his progeny, Metternich impressed with an excellent walk and a very high rideability.

The black stallion Matcho AA derives from the French Anglo-Arab breed and was winner of the 1992 stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf. He covered at Celle from 1983 to 1995 and managed to found his own stallion line from there. His descendants enjoy a high standing among riders because of their extraordinary easy rideability and good character and are successful in all disciplines.

The mare Prinzessin E produced 9 foals in 12 years and was highly premiumed at DLG Shows. She is a daughter of Pik Konig who made a name for himself in Oberndorf as a sire of dressage and show jumping horses of the very first order. He has been able to pass on his pre-potency and positive traits to his progeny including his sons Pik Bube 1 and 11. Ellinor was winner of several national mare shows. Metternich is clearly stamped by his Thoroughbred forefathers and bred out of renowned DLG dam line. He has powerful and compact conformation, very much like Pik Konig/Pik As xx as regards type, presence and ability. He has a reliable temperament, and is a horse with a big outline, excellent shoulder and hind quarters. He is endowed with outstanding walk, and very good basic paces. He is highly commended for both his jumping talent and technique. Here is a quality horse capable of producing both dressage and show jumping talent.

Metternich is a good improver through his progeny in riding horse type, in conformation, and in dressage ability.

Maigirl’s dam sire is the stallion Graf Grannus.

In 2004 the Hanoverian Verband turned again to a jumping stallion for their Sire of the Year – Graf Grannus. The black stallion was by Grannus out of Goldmädel (Goldlöwe / Goya). He was in fact heavily bred to Gotthard, with the great grey appearing three times on his pedigree.  Graf Grannus was born in 1988 on the farm of Heiko Oltmanns. At his 100 day test at Adelheidsdorf, Graf Grannus was 3rd overall with 130.51 points, and 2nd in the jumping with 138.04 points.

In the 2014 Hannoverian Stallion Year Book, he was recorded as the sire of 429 brood mares, 51 of which have been awarded the State Premium title. He then had 21 licensed stallion sons, of which Ginsberg, Goodman and Graf Top are the best known. In 1995, his son, Golden Champ was the champion of the Hanoverian Stallion Licensing.

As of the 2014 Hanoverian Stallion book, he produced 562 jumping competition horses with 15,318 placings – with 61 competing at S level.

Graf Grannus has an FN breeding ranking of 132 for jumping talent, with a rather more modest dressage ranking of 93. On the basis of the Hanoverian Mare and Auction evaluations, Graf Grannus has a 142 jumping index, with a negative dressage value of 71.

Therefore, due to Maigirl’s pedigree and the tendency of it to be more jumping orientated, the decision was made to put her to jumping stallions.  The last of which was imported semen of the Dutch stallion Quality Time.  His uphill tendency and length of limb, was the foremost reason for using him, as well as believing that he will breed a very modern athletic foal, which is exactly what he did with Rivendell Maui.

Everything indicates that Quality Time is going to be a true foundation sire of showjumpers. His son Floris TN has been approved by the KWPN and every year again sons of Quality Time earn tickets for the second and third round or even the performance test of the KWPN Stallion Selections. In addition, his daughters Féline and Fadessa H2 received fantastic scores of 83 and 86.5 points for the KWPN Mare Test IBOP.

The famous breeder Floris van Leuken bred Quality Time, who is a son of the well-known Quantum – sire to Grand Prix showjumpers such as Quintero la Silla, GK Quentin, Karatina and Quin Chin. In addition, Quality Time was bred out of an excellent damline as well: granddam Jessika II produced the valuable stallion Goodwill and out of this same Holsteiner damline 1463, the Olympic showjumpers Lanciano (Philippe Guerdat) and Lucilla II (Princess Haya) were bred. Ridden by Jeroen Dubbeldam, Quality was among the Netherlands’ best combinations. In 2011 they became Dutch champion and one year later they won the Grand Prix of San Patrignano. Last year the talented rider Zoï Snels took over the reins of the experienced Quality Time. “Quality Time gets me to a higher level in the sport, I really owe that to him. Quality Time is careful and has unlimited power and has a dedication of 100%. He would always bring me to the finish, in any class. And this top attitude he passes on, because his offspring have it as well!”
