Rivendell Suprema
Pedigree profile of Rivendell Suprema
Suprema was the most beautiful filly, hence the name. She is still beautiful, but might not be big enough to keep as a replacement filly. Time will tell. She is line bred to Sacramento Song xx, which from a breeding perspective is of interest.
Suprema is by Rivendell Saruman, whose bloodline is a very modern one suitable for both dressage and jumping. Sandro Song is by the well-known top sire of showjumping stallions and founder of his own successful sire line, Sandro. This stallion, which has over 44 graded sons, is also a source of world-class dressage horses.
Sandro also competed in international showjumping competition with Franke Sloothaak. Sandro Song is out of Antenne II by Gepard, who left a lasting imprint on Paul Schockemöhle’s mare band – Gepard was a son of the great sire of showjumpers, Gotthard. The grand-dam Antenne won numerous Grand Prix with George Ahlmann. Sandro Song is one of the few stallions to have been both Champion Oldenburg Junior Stallion as well as main premium winner.
The two top horses in the 2006 World Equestrian Games, namely Satchmo – Anky van Grunsven in Dressage, and Sandro Boy – Markus Ehning in Show-jumping, have Sandro in their pedigree.
Saruman’s damline has the legendary Pik Bube in its pedigree who was a dressage legend in his time under Herbert Rehbein. They won 11 out of 12 advanced classes in their only competition season in 1980. Pik Bube’s sire, Pik König is considered the most important son of the famous Thoroughbred sire of showjumpers, Pik As xx. Pik König sired 19 Approved sons and 22 State Premium mares. His offspring – such as Pirol 37 – were mainly successful in showjumping. With a dressage index of 126, and a jumping index of 131, Pik König had an overall rating of 129. His sire, Pik As xx stood at the State Stud Celle from 1953-69, where he sired four approved sons. Pik Bube was a genius on the international dressage scene with a series of overwhelming successes. He’s also well known as the sire of many licensed and proven young stallions, and it is through him that the grandiose thoroughbred blood of Pik As XX exerts much of its influence.
Suprema’s dam, was the imported swiss warmblood mare ‘Singsong’, by the stallion Sinclair x Sacramento Song xx.
Sacremento Song had 23 starts as a 2, 3 and 4 year old, for four wins, and the moderately successful winnings. He stood successfully in England before coming to Germany’s Holstein region when his owner, Charlie Munford decided to retire from the breeding game due to old age. His sire, Sicambre won both the French Derby and the Grand Prix of Paris while his dam, was by Sayajirao, a St Leger winner.
Sacramento Song xx, serviced for 7 seasons as a private stallion in Holstein. He is viewed as one of the best sires of show jumpers in Holstein since the war. In spite of a very limited number of off-spring, 40 jumpers were successful up to the highest classes, among them exceptional horses such as Societe (D. Hafemeister, Nelson Pessoa), San Siro (G. Muller, winnings over 30,000 DM) or, of course, Sandro himself with Franke Sloothaak.
According to that great expert on Holstein breeding, Jasper Nissen in a fascinating article in Z Magazine (August 2004), Sacramentro Song’s career in Holstein seriously suffered from the fact that he was not studbook owned but privately owned and was active precisely in the period in which the Thoroughbred had fallen into complete disgrace with the studbook. In addition, he was stationed in not the best breeding district. Nevertheless he soon proved himself a top class sire. He produced a large number of first class showjumping horses, several event horses, no dressage horses. He often passed on his own type. He was a purebred bay, often with a dark shade, he produced tall horses, somewhat light in the bones, with an excellent character and eager workers with an energetic temperament.
