Rivendell Carrera

Carrera is a very tall, extremely beautiful grey filly by our own bred stallion Rivendell Quicksilver. In fact Carrera was conceived the day before Quicksilver left Cape town to go to his new home in Johannesburg.

Quicksilver was the last foal of the legendary Hannoverian mare Greta. Last but certainly not least, with Quicksilver being a near-perfect specimen of a horse. Hopefully he will continue Greta’s line with pride to many more youngsters.

Quicksilver is by Quintender, a top competition horse, two times Bundeschampionat finalist and 1.50 m jumping class winner.

In 2003, six of his sons were approved, including Quick Nick, a successful 1.50 m show jumper which sold at auction for the record price of EUR 400,000. Maternal grandsire Contender’s progeny have collective lifetime earnings total of more than EUR 5.8 million and include exceptional horses such as Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum’s Checkmate, making him one of the best breeding stallions in the world.

Quintender reached two times the final of the Bundeschampionat, won numerous tests for young show jumping horses with top scores thanks to his outstanding jumping-technique, established straightaway at 1.50 m classes and is internationally successful with Andreas Kreutzer. In 2011, this pair placed with the best in Hanover, Munich, Gera and other sites.

Quintender convinces with an enormous willingness to perform, thoroughbred-typed power and dream technique. His first offspring achieved already high placings up to 1.30 m classes for youngsters. Quick Shot was licensed in Hanover in 2012.

In 2008, Quintender presented the Federal Winner Foal at the German Foal Championship as well as the most expensive foal at an auction that sold for 120,000 Euro in 2008. Sire Quinar has produced 19 licensed sons to date and numerous successful athletics in 1.50 m classes who chalked up about 320,000 Euro according to FN Breeding Yearbook.

Quinar’s son Quick Nolte, also successful at 1.50 m level, advanced in 2003 to price record at the Holsteiner auction sold for 400,000 Euro.

Quintender is descended from a very reliable performance horse bloodline. His granddam B-Estelle produced Peter Eriksson’s Olympic team silver medal winner Cardento. This Holstein bloodline has also produced the approved stallions Cardenio, Cyranos, Leandro, Quinto de B, Capitalist, Colorit, Randi/John Whitaker and Franke Sloothaak’s internationally successful show jumper Leonardo.

Quintender is a stallion with a proven competitive track record and excellent breeding qualities.

Greta, Quicksilver’s dam was by the stallion Godewind. The Hanoverian stallion, Godewind,was licensed with three breed associations and had scores of 121+ at his performance testing. His offspring are known for their athletic ability and, in Germany, have proven themselves in the Grand Prix rings. He is a grandson of the immortal Gotthard and the important Sellhorn and Domspatz.

Gotthard is truly one of the greats. For seven years he was the leading sire of showjumpers in Germany and his influence continues to the present day. During his time he sired over 34 licensed stallion sons. Goldstern, Goldberg, Gardestern, Goldpilz, and Godehard were all influential.

Gotthard was also influential as a mare sire and he was responsible for 26 States Premium mares.

Gotthard was by Goldfisch II who was the sire of nine licensed stallion sons. Goldfisch II descends from the nineteenth century Thoroughbred sire, Goldschaum. Goldfisch II had a reputation for producing beautiful horses and good movers.

It was not until Gotthard’s daughter, Goldika (out of a Mecklenburg mare with no papers) started her sensational jumping career with Gert Wiltfang that the breeders found him so attractive. Eventually he was to produce over fifty horses to compete internationally and when in 1975, a list of top stallions was published, Gotthard was number one in terms of prize money won. Eventually his competing progeny numbered 398, with earnings of almost two million deutschmarks.

Greta’s damsire was Graphit, who was sired by Grande. Grande (Graf/SPS Duellfest/Duellant) stood at stud for a remarkable 25 years (1962-1987) and has left an indelible mark on the Hanoverian breed. Grande is ranked in the German Eternal Top 10 sire list. He was a very versatile sire, due in part to his own bloodlines: on the sire’s side the jumping influence of Graf and on the dam’s side the dressage influence of Duellant. He sired more than 40 approved sons, the most famous of which are Garibaldi II, Graphit, Gralsritter and Glander who went on to be influential sires in their own right. Both Grande and his own offspring were noted for producing horses which excelled in dressage and show jumping. Grande’s line dominates the sport of dressage in Germany and abroad. He is the grandsire of several Olympic champions including Gifted, Grunox and Gigolo FRH.

One of the oldest, the G-line originated over 100 years ago with the Thoroughbred Stallion Goldschaum v. Flagcolet-Chamant. A review of this stallion line over time shows it is the backbone of solid, versatile, athletic horses produced through the state Stud. They are known for their desire and capacity to work. These horse have proven themselves to be among the most talented competition horses in the world. Goldfisch II gave the line a difinitive stamp, producing 12 licensed sons, 20 States Premium mares, 183 registered mares and over 100 competition horses. His legacy was passed on through his immortal son Gotthard and grandson Grande. The sons and daughters of these stallions dominated world class competition in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s. So successful and powerful is this line that after more than 60 years, there were 31 direct descendents standing at the state stud. This was 17.5% of the total stallions

available, the greatest number for any line! The famous Grande, who was at stud for 25 years was noted for the performance success of his offspring. With Graf, by Goldfisch II from the jumping side and his Duellant mother, Grande combined the best in dressage and jumping bloodlines. Gotthard, in his time, was noted as the top sire of jumping champions. His noted sons include Fardestern, Gluckstern and Gluckspilz. The G-Line is reknown as the most important and famous producer of international performance horses in the world both in dressage and jumping. In dressage, these horses are household names: Gifted, Grundstein, Grunox, Gigalo, Graf George, Girogione and Goldstern. Grand Prix and Olympic jumping champions include Gladstone, Everest, Gaylord, Genius, Grand Plaisir, Grandeur and Top Gun. Three Grande sons achieved great fame as sires. Galsritter developed into a producer of jumpers of international class. Garibaldi II sired the U.S. dressage champion Gifted as well as many show jumpers and Graphit sired the well known dressage sires Grundstein I & II. Grundstein I competed very successfully at Grand Prix level and was the leading sire in the FN rankings among stallions in the top ten percent of their age group in both jumping and dressage from 1988-2000. Graphit also produced Grannus, a top jumping stallion with lifetime earnings of well over five million DM, who in turn produced seven Olympic hoses and more than 60 approved stallions including Graf Grannus, the 2004 Hanoverian Stallion of the Year. This is truly a line to be preserved and nurtured.

Carrera’s dam Carla was bought in 2006 as a two year old in Germany as we were amazed by her elasticity, cadence and attitude at this age. She was inseminated using Quintender semen, but sadly did not produce a foal before leaving Germany. Once in RSA, she has been used as a broodmare, as well as having been backed. Due to the quality and temperament of her foals, she will continue to be used as a broodmare in the stud.

Sire Concetto Famos, was successful under Meredith Michaels-Beerbaum in Grand Prix, Nations Cups and the Hamburg Derby, Concetto Famos now impressively continues his career in the breeding sector.

Two of his sons have been licensed: the first in Westphalia who was sold for 100,000 Euros and the second, a premium stallion at the Southern German Hengsttage, who sold for 50,000 Euros.

Among Concetto’s foals there were many show winners, also in 2008 at the shows in Donzdorf and Heiligenfeld. In 2004 a Concetto Famos filly took seventh place in the German Foal Championships in Lienen. Other offspring are now successful at medium

(M*) level such as Concetto son/Hilmar Meyer, Cornetto/Joachim Heyer and the ribbon winning Bundeschampionat finalist, Con Palermo, who was one of the most expensive at the P.S.I. auction.

His Holsteiner sire Caletto I won team bronze at the 1983 EC in Hickstead/GBR under Dr. Michael Rüping. Among his 30 licensed sons you find Calvaro Z, Cambridge and Cantus.

His Danish bred dam, St.Pr.St. Sif, is a granddaughter of the trademark stallion Ramiro through Racot. In the third generation you find the Trakehner stallion Isländer who comes from the famous Isola Longa family.

Damsire Mytens xx, has recent;y become very popular and desireable in sporthorse breeding.

Mytens was born in the United States and sold to Britain as a yearling. He was very successful in training as a 2 year old and at the start of his 3 year old career until a tendon injury forced his retirement from racing. As a breeding stallion, in 1989/90 he was entered into the stallion competitions and was unique as the only Thoroughbred stallion to have completed all seven competitions including the finals.

Myten’s sire Spectacular Bid xx won 26 of his 30 starts and as a 3 year old and was unbeaten in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, but finished third in the Belmont Stakes, just missing victory in the world renowned Triple Crown. He later won the Marlboro and the Meadowlands Cup. He finished his career following an unbeaten season and 4 track records, claimed victory in the California’s Strub series, and the Washington Park Handicap, set a career earnings record, and gained the prestigious title of Horse of the Year. As recognition of his overwhelming career he joined the Hall of Fame in 1982. His pedigree can be traced back via Bold Ruler to the legendary stallions Nasrullah and Nearco.

Mytens dam’s sire Hoist the Flag is one of the more prestigious stallions in the United States.

In 1990 his first yearling fillies came up for inspection and Mytens fillies were successful at 3 provincial shows by taking the reserve champion. At the yearling show for Thoroughbreds, two Mytens colts gained a first premium, of which one was champion. Other successful offspring by Mytens include the 1999 winner of the German Young Event Championship; Magic Michael, currently competing at Prix St George and Harrison Himself, now competing in dressage at Prix St George and highly successful in combined dressage and jumping competitions. He stands at 8th place in the BHD rankings for his own winnings. In 2000 Mytens was the third placed sire for points earned by offspring in the hunter section on the NAWPN.

Mytens shows great technique and power that is successfully passed onto his progeny, along with his attractive conformation, stunning movement and jumping ability.

Carrera has a half brother, out of Carla, too, who was sold and has been produced in dressage as well as in showjumping and shows great ability in both. His rideability is exceptional. Another half sister, Rivendell Cinzano x Centadel, has the same attitude towards work and is sane and sound. Carla’s offspring are all tall, easy and correct.
