Rivendell Blu Moon

Rivendell Blu Moon

D.O.B  02/12/2025 – Rivendell Sirandipity x Rivendell Blu ( Open – level Showjumper )

Rivendell Blu Moon represents an intriguing combination of established European showjumping bloodlines, bringing together the influence of Sir Shutterfly, Calvaro Z and Ramiro Z on her sire’s side with Chacco-Blue and Balou du Rouet through her dam. What makes the pedigree particularly meaningful, however, is that Blu Moon’s maternal pedigree is supported by the performance of her own dam.

Rivendell Blu competed at Open level in showjumping.

THE MATERNAL SIDE — RIVENDELL BLU

Rivendell Blu brings together Chacco-Blue and Balou du Rouet, two highly influential names in modern jumping breeding.

Chacco-Blue was by Chambertin and out of Contara, by Contender.

Importantly, Chacco-Blue was himself a high-level sport horse rather than solely a breeding stallion. FEI records show him competing at CSI5* Grand Prix level, including 1.60 m competition.

His pedigree also introduces another important Holsteiner influence through Contender, while Chambertin’s pedigree leads through Cambridge to Caletto I.

This becomes particularly interesting when Blu Moon’s whole pedigree is considered, because Caletto I also appears directly behind Calvaro Z on the paternal side. There is therefore a recurrence of this influential Holstein jumping family in Blu Moon’s wider pedigree.

Balou du Rouet contributes another major performance-breeding family.

He is by Baloubet du Rouet out of Georgia, by Continue, with Contender appearing again behind Continue.

Baloubet du Rouet brings the celebrated French line of Galoubet A and Almé, while the maternal side of Balou du Rouet introduces further German performance breeding.

Balou du Rouet himself competed to advanced jumping level before becoming predominantly known as a sire.

The combination of Chacco-Blue × Balou du Rouet therefore gives Rivendell Blu a pedigree containing several layers of established jumping ancestry rather than a single fashionable sire.

More importantly for Blu Moon, Rivendell Blu subsequently validated that pedigree in the competition arena by progressing to Open-level showjumping.

THE PATERNAL SIDE — RIVENDELL SIRANDIPITY

Blu Moon’s sire, Rivendell Sirandipity, contributes the combination:

Sir Shutterfly × Calvaro Z × Ramiro Z

This side of the pedigree provides another substantial concentration of European jumping breeding.

Sir Shutterfly is by Silvio I out of Famm, by Forrest xx.

The Thoroughbred influence of Forrest xx is noteworthy within a jumping pedigree because it introduces additional blood into a pedigree otherwise strongly influenced by continental warmblood jumping families.

Sir Shutterfly has also produced internationally recorded sport horses. His progeny appearing in FEI records include horses competing internationally in both jumping and eventing.

Calvaro Z is particularly important when analysing Blu Moon’s pedigree.

His pedigree is:

Caletto I × Rixa, by Capitol I

This is an intensely Holsteiner jumping combination.

Caletto I brings the enormously influential Cor de la Bryère line, while Capitol I represents another cornerstone of Holstein jumping breeding.

Calvaro Z therefore introduces two of the historically important jumping influences of Holstein breeding into Blu Moon’s paternal pedigree.

There is also an interesting pedigree connection across Blu Moon’s two sides: Caletto I appears directly as Calvaro Z’s sire and also appears further back through Chacco-Blue’s sire line.

That repetition gives the pedigree a degree of consolidation around established Holsteiner jumping ancestry.

The presence of Ramiro Z adds another historically significant jumping influence to the paternal side.

Rather than viewing each famous name independently, Ramiro Z is best understood as another layer in a pedigree deliberately weighted toward jumping performance and established sport-horse families.

HOW THE TWO SIDES COMPLEMENT EACH OTHER

Viewed as a whole, Blu Moon’s pedigree brings several major European jumping families together:

Sir Shutterfly
↓
Silvio I × Forrest xx

Calvaro Z
↓
Caletto I × Capitol I

Ramiro Z

combined with

Chacco-Blue
↓
Chambertin × Contender

Balou du Rouet
↓
Baloubet du Rouet × Continue

This means Blu Moon’s pedigree draws from Holsteiner, Oldenburg, Hanoverian, Mecklenburg and Selle Français-derived jumping influences, with Thoroughbred blood also appearing through Sir Shutterfly’s maternal ancestry.

There are recurring influences rather than an entirely unrelated collection of famous names. In particular, the broader Caletto/Cor de la Bryère and Contender-related Holstein influence occurs at several points in the pedigree.

From a breeding perspective, that makes Blu Moon especially interesting to follow as she matures.

The most valuable aspect of Blu Moon’s pedigree may ultimately be her dam.

Stallion names can make a pedigree impressive on paper, but the immediate female family is extremely important when evaluating a prospective sport horse or future broodmare.

Rivendell Blu was:

Chacco-Blue × Balou du Rouet

and

a proven Open-level showjumper.

Blu Moon therefore receives this combination directly through a mare who demonstrated her own sporting ability.

That distinction is important. It provides a direct performance link between Blu Moon and the competition arena rather than relying solely upon achievements elsewhere in the pedigree.

Blu Moon’s birth carries additional significance because Rivendell Blu tragically died giving birth to her.

Consequently, Blu Moon is not simply another representative of this cross. She carries forward the direct genetic legacy of a performance mare who can no longer produce further offspring.

As a filly, this becomes particularly meaningful.

Should Blu Moon ultimately demonstrate the qualities suggested by her pedigree and develop successfully as a sport horse, she may one day also offer Rivendell the opportunity to preserve and develop her dam’s female line through breeding.

That possibility should not be confused with a prediction of future performance — Blu Moon must establish her own qualities as she matures — but it does make her development particularly important from a breeding perspective.

Rivendell Sirandipity × Rivendell Blu

Sir Shutterfly • Calvaro Z • Ramiro Z
Chacco-Blue • Balou du Rouet

A filly combining generations of internationally established jumping blood with the immediate performance record of an Open-level showjumping dam.

Born from tragedy, Blu Moon carries something that cannot be recreated: The direct legacy of Rivendell Blu.
